Natural Gas – Domestic

Candidates must successfully complete the Domestic Core Gas Safety (ACS) qualification (CCN1), in order to undertake work with natural gas in a domestic environment and prior to any additional assessment natural gas fuelled installations and appliances.

This assessment takes the form of both written and practical exams covering the following:

  • Gas safety regulations, Building Regulations, British Standards and other related legislation
  • Unsafe situations and emergency actions
  • Gas pipework (Including sizing, installation, defects and faults)
  • Tightness testing and purging (Covers both low pressure and medium pressure installations)
  • Checking meter regulator
  • Emergency control valves
  • Appliance burner pressures and gas rates
  • Flues and ventilation
  • Combustion
  • Combustion Performance Analysis (Flue gas testing)
  • Appliance controls

  • Flues and ventilation (Specific to appliance category)

  • Commissioning, service, maintenance and basic gas safety related fault finding

Note: Training is not a pre-requisite to assessment

Who should attend?

Engineers who have the necessary qualifications to be admitted onto the ACS Scheme run by Strategic Management Board for the industry to enable registration with Gas Safe.

These engineers are classified into 2 categories

  • Category 1 – Experienced practicing gas fitting operative
  • Category 2 – Applicant with relevant mechanical engineering/ fitting qualifications/experience
